I'm thinking of Roman and Egyptian paintings on the carved coffins I've seen at the BM. P'raps it's that the portraits are painted and not photographic that makes them different?Matthew Richardsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02663433899896826225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1006261273144567175.post-12890607102829081682011-06-30T11:55:20.157+01:002011-06-30T11:55:20.157+01:00Yes I've seen things like that in Spanish ceme...Yes I've seen things like that in Spanish cemetrys. The graveyards I visited in southern Spain were kind of weird as instead of burying people in the ground, they went in for incarcerating them in walls. It strikes me as a bit ghoulish having the image of the person in the box.sheila moxleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14525724026153387103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1006261273144567175.post-52179572746193609812011-06-22T10:48:28.907+01:002011-06-22T10:48:28.907+01:00Thanks for that Jonny- how intriguing - of course!...Thanks for that Jonny- how intriguing - of course!. Do you think it is from the 30s? I remember going to Pere Lachaise years ago - it was fab and - saw Jim Morrisson's grave with candles on and Oscar wild's with flowers on - but don't recall plaques - photos yes, but I guess I never examined them that close. Look out for a card in the post!Matthew Richardsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02663433899896826225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1006261273144567175.post-6866700968451294702011-06-21T22:28:44.453+01:002011-06-21T22:28:44.453+01:00Matthew how interesting! Perhaps this image was a duplicate or rejected, so they created a little wooden frame for the photo.jonny mendelssonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11979079430268766090noreply@blogger.com
